The Ginn Science Resources for Year Six comprise guidance for teacher, classroom resources, students' books and assessment materials.

There are two types of teacher guidance, the lengthy Year Six Teachers’ Resource File and the briefer Essential Ginn Science: Guide to Classroom Management Year Six, which reduces both the number of activities and the detail in which they are described in the resources file. There are also Skills Support Sheets and Activity Sheets for use by students. Students’ books are provided to support students’ learning and develop their scientific understanding. Material for assessing students is included partly within the resources file and partly provided as separate Assessment Booklets. There are also National Assessment Sheets which are tied to the levels of attainment of the National Curriculum for England in the 1995 curriculum.

Ginn Science is intended to be flexible enough to meet the requirements of different curricula within the countries of the UK. It gives most attention to the National Curriculum for England and the teachers’ resource files published after 1995 are explicitly related to the revised National Curriculum and the Scottish Guidelines for environmental studies 5-14. There are several charts in the resource files which enable cross-referencing to both curricula. Other materials – the students’ books and assessment booklets - were unaffected by the structural change brought about by the 1995 curriculum revision. Materials published early in 1997 relate the assessment in Ginn Science more closely to the 1995 National Curriculum level descriptions.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
