A collection of resources from each of the UK's Research Councils to support teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools. Please refer to the individual Councils' collections for details.

Research Councils UK (RCUK) is the strategic partnership of the UK's seven Research Councils. These are:
•Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
•Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
•Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC)
•Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
•Medical Research Council (MRC)
•Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
•Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

Each year the Research Councils invest around £3 billion in research covering the full spectrum of academic disciplines from the medical and biological sciences to astronomy, physics, chemistry and engineering, social sciences, economics, environmental sciences and the arts and humanities.

RCUK funds a number of initiatives to enhance the experience of research for young people and teachers; for example, CPD for teachers to provide contemporary research updates and schemes/initiatives to link researchers and schools directly.

RCUK Career Case Studies Website
This useful careers website for young people from Research Councils UK (RCUK) is designed to provide information about a range of research careers. The webpages feature case studies from researchers from all seven Research Councils and cover a wide range of subjects. The case studies provide an insight about life as a researcher and the different career paths which researchers’ take. The website is aimed at post-16 students.

Working in partnership with Research Councils UK, the national network of Science Learning Centres has created an innovative programme that will engage the scientist within teachers and students alike.

Bringing Cutting Edge Science into the Classroom
RCUK continuing professional development courses have been set up in partnership with the national network of Science Learning Centres.

The programmes have been designed to deliver the latest knowledge, new contexts and practical activities to support teachers in delivering the curriculum in an accessible, enjoyable and stimulating way for their students.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
