This collection of resources from The Mathematics Centre covers the full age range from Early Years to post-16 education. Much of the material has been produced as a result of teachers collaborating on projects, attending in service courses and as results of innovative ideas by local teachers.

Mathematics in Primary Schools consists of five publications and is a particular offering for teachers of students in primary schools who wish to widen and enrich mathematics in their classrooms and encourage students to carry out some of their own mathematical work. In this series, Marion Bird uses simple starting points which are within the reach of all teachers and students and manageable in all classrooms.

The collection includes the TEAM materials (Teachers Evaluating and Assessing Mathematics) which came out of a project initiated during the mid-1980s in anticipation of the publication of the GCSE National Criteria for Mathematics. The aim of the project was to consolidate and build upon the vast experience of assessment of coursework in mathematics that was available at CSE and beyond, including Mode 3 ‘O’ level.

The Engaging Mathematics booklets have been developed primarily for teachers of students in the 16-19 age range. Each booklet sets out to highlight key issues which readers can work at in order to enhance their appreciation of what mathematics means to them. Throughout the booklets are mathematical tasks and problems carefully chosen to exemplify particular points and which also offer activities for personal engagement or for use in the classroom with students.

The Low Attainers project was initially charged with the task of developing good practice in the teaching of mathematics to low attaining pupils and to investigate methods of disseminating its findings.

Using Microcomputers to Develop Problem Solving focuses on how the use of a microcomputer can be used to allow students to get worthwhile mathematical experiences by using a few words from the computers' programming language.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
