Mathematical Challenges (UKMT)
The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. Originally established in 1996, the UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK students.
The resources presented here include the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematical Challenges. The UK Senior Mathematical Challenge 2010 was aimed at students who were in full time education and had to be in Year 13 or below (England & Wales); S6 or below (Scotland); Year 14 or below (Northern Ireland). The Intermediate challenge for students in Years 9, 10 and 11 whilst the junior challenge was for Year 8 students.
The Individual Mathematical Challenges consist of a lively, intriguing multiple choice question paper to be completed without a calculator which is designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils.
Further resources are the Mathematical Olympiads to which students are invited to participate if they come in the top range in the age realted Challenges.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
