This investigation from Cre8ate maths involves students in finding the best size screen for a television. If you have a large flat screen and view a standard analogue or digital picture the individual pixels are visible if you are sitting too close to the screen.

Working in small groups of 3 or 4, students measure the pixel density of a selection of pictures provided and find out, for each student, at what distance from the eye the pixilation disappears,

They will need to decide on which distance to use for their group by taking the mean or median measurement and also think of a way to make a comparison of this distance with the different pixel densities of the pictures.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
