A selection of worksheets and support material, provided by ASE, for use in mainstream science. There are twelve resource books in the whole series and this is a sample of worksheets from the series Supporting Secondary Science. They have been produced using simple, clear language and including pictures, to take into consideration the language and literacy needs of some students.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.

  • Activity time: 5-15 minutes for each one

Level / prior knowledge: Lower ability KS3 or 4 dependent on ability / need of students. Prior knowledge of each topic needed.
Subject / curriculum links / skills: KS3 Science, KS4 Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth science
Preparation time: Minimal photocopying time only for most though some students with specific needs may need more individual adaptation.
    Extra resources: None needed

Commentary: I have dipped into this resource with students needing higher levels of support at KS3 science and at KS4 supporting students following BTEC Applied Science. The worksheets are clear, simple and some contain useful simple illustrations. I have increased the font size for parts of some of the worksheets and also turned the given word-search words the right way up to make them even more accessible to specific students. The adaptation summary sheet is a particularly useful resource using now many times.
