Work Experience
In this Teachers TV video, two consortia in Birmingham prepare to pilot the Secondary Diplomas in Engineering and Creative and Media.
The diplomas were designed with industry support, and aim to equip young people with the skills employers need, and the ability to go on learning throughout their lives.
To achieve this consortia are making links with employers, designing work experience placements and ensuring that the learning facilities for the diploma course are linked to industry.
The Engineering consortium take students to see what work experience will be like at the motoring manufacturer Land Rover. Students considering the Creative and Media Diploma take a tour around a Higher Education college, where they will be taught by industry professionals and use industry standard facilities.
Meanwhile teachers from the Creative & Media consortium go backstage at the Birmingham REP to see what work experience could be like, and to discuss provision of a working experience via an online resource.
