This topic, from the Association for Science Education, focuses on the issue of acid rain and its effects on our society and our environment. Students explore the local and regional impacts of acid rain and then exchange information about their findings.

As they work though the topic the students find out about the science of acid rain and explore the impacts of acid rain locally, nationally and globally. The topic can help them to distinguish between matters of principle and matters of fact.

After exchanging their findings and views with students in other countries, students compare and discuss the responses received from classes in other parts of the world.

This topic fits into the chemistry curriculum. In most countries it is suitable for students aged 14-16. The complete topic includes teacher guidance, student pages, the exchange form together with data sheets and maps. This version has not been updated since 1999. It is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Bulgarian.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
