Types of Materials
Produced by the Hamilton Trust, these resources give details of six lessons on materials. This includes lesson plans, practical activities and all student materials. Students explore materials commonly found in the classroom, sorting them into plastic and not plastic. They discover objects that float and sink before carrying out related investigations. The story of the Three Little Pigs is used to study building materials before looking at magnets.
The lessons include:
• Naming materials
• Exploring plastics
• Floating and sinking
• Why things float
• Materials for building
• Magnetic materials
