In this STEMNET case study, STEM Ambassador Peter Damer talks about his work with socially, emotionally and behaviourally disturbed primary school students in Hertfordshire.

Peter had previously been a teacher and, having given up teaching to move into industry, he found that he missed working with students.

In school, Peter introduces topics new to the students and organises fun sessions such as making balls from PVA glue, filming them in motion and analysing their trajectories. He interests students in science, discovery and trying things out. He also shows them that even the cleverest scientists can get things wrong.

Teacher Yvonne Chapman said, "Peter can provide new insight and additional resources. He adds the wow factor."

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
