From the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the 'Big questions, big experiment' wall chart describes the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It looks at the "big questions" about our Universe that scientists are trying to answer, and how the amazing LHC will help them to do so. The 'Tunnel to the beginning of time' poster shows the huge scale of the LHC.

The LHC is the biggest scientific experiment in the world. It collides sub-atomic particles at ultra-high energies that will recreate the conditions experienced less than one billionth of a second after the Big Bang. This will allow physicists to test their fundamental theories of matter.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.

'Tunnel to the Beginning of Time' - The classics picture of the ATLAS detector at CERN that poses the biggest question, who is the person in the photograph?  A quality picture for any Physics classroom including mine.

Available in glossy form from STFC.

Big Questions, Big Experiments - An excellent summary of  A- Level Particle Physics.  I am sure students would welcome the booklet after they have studied The Standard Model as a revision tool for examinations.

Available in glossy from STFC.
