This collection of five Moonsaics have been created by the National Schools' Observatory, they consist of five different images of the Moon, separated into multiple picture panels per image, much like a "giant jigsaw puzzle". Students are challenged to assemble the completed images, offering them the opportunity to fully explore the lunar surface in high definition detail.

The images are as follows:

• Moonsaic 1 - A mosaic of the Full Moon
• Moonsaic 2 - Mosaic of a "Last Quarter" phase Moon
• Moonsaic 3 - Mosaic of a crescent Moon
• Moonsaic 4 - A second, slightly larger, mosaic of the Full Moon
• Moonsaic 5 - Mosaic at "First Quarter" phase

The moonsaic project encourages the use of a student’s IT skills, allows them to practice pattern awareness and matching, but more than that, it also provides a fun project in the classroom that leads to a great poster for the notice board.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
