This Science 5/13 unit for teachers Like and unlike stages one, two and three has a wider range in the suggested activities than most other units, covering stage three (transition to abstract thinking) as well as the two earlier stages. There are two chapters (Chapters 2 and 4), which are written particularly to suggests topics which more advanced children might follow up, perhaps while others are moving more slowly. The overall aim is to introduce ideas, thought and discussion at a simple level will be complete in themselves but will also be of value in helping children to a basis of understanding for the more systematic science teaching which may follow. There is no background information for teachers, but references to source of information and materials.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
