Work done in this Nuffield 13 - 16 module followed from the S unit called ‘Rockets and momentum’. This S unit provided enough material for eight double periods during a single-certificate science course. The teachers’ guide included eight worksheets to supplement the students’ booklet.

The general notes in the teachers’ guide pointed out that there was a basic conflict between the approaches of Nuffield Secondary Science and SCISP to the treatment of motion. In this unit the main approach was the non-mathematical one of Nuffield Secondary Science. Ticker tape charts rather than graphs were used, and many students were not expected to go beyond simple ideas such as 'more force means more acceleration'. But where appropriate, the work was developed beyond this to a more mathematical level, usually as a worksheet.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
