What Do Social Scientists Do? Geography
This Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) resource gives information about career options for people who study geography. It starts by defining the subject, including its component parts of human and physical geography. Human geography includes studies of cultures, population, economies, health and medicine, rural and urban areas. Physical geography includes studies of the environment: hydrological processes, geomorphology, atmosphere and climate change, bio-geography, natural landscape phenomena and hazards, geographical information systems and cartography.
The information sheet lists possible careers for geographers, learned societies and relevant ESRC-funded research (please note that links within individual pdf files may no longer work but the organisations listed may be found using an external search).
ESRC is a part of Research Councils UK (RCUK).
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
