Organ and Tissue Donation
Produced for the Debating Matters competition, this topic guide looks at the use of financial incentives to encourage greater tissue and organ donations. It contains information, further reading and web links that help students to understand and debate the issues.
In the UK, there is a shortage of organ donors and demands for transplant tissues is difficult to meet. In April 2010, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics launched a public consultation which addressed whether it is ethical to use financial incentives to increase donations of organs and tissue.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
