Session One
This resource contains the first session of the Active Approaches to Level Three Applied Science, produced by the Science Learning Centres and the Nuffield Foundation. The session includes two activities: Gallery of quotes and Making sense of texts.
• Gallery of quotes - students are asked to read and respond to a set of quotes
• Making sense of text - an activity taken from the Learning Skills for Science (LSS) project in which students 'translate' and interpret a text about applied science into their own words using diagrams, charts or mind maps.
The presentation then discusses what makes a course 'applied' and why active learning is important.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
