Using Technology to Support SEN
Produced by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), this case study looks at the theme of harnessing technology. From Dearne Valley College it describes how a learning strategy, originally developed for a single learner, has been extended to many more learners across Dearne Valley College.
Using strategies developed as part of a wider STEM project, the college supported a learner with complex mental health issues to enable him to complete a BTEC in Information technology. Although extremely articulate he had difficulty in submitting coursework in the usual formats such as reports. Showing the student how to use web-authoring software allowed him to produce a web site containing his assignments in a variety of formats. This method of producing and submitting work has also been found to be successful and motivating in other students.
