Gold Award: Future Travel
The British Science Association CREST Awards encourage students to take an investigative approach to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related projects. These resources are just a few ideas that could be used to help students gain an award.
These materials look at three possible projects that relate to space exploration:
• Communications project - students gather information about space exploration before making a presentation on the problems to be overcome with past and possible future benefits of space travel.
• Practical project - students design, build and test a mobile miniature laboratory capable of working on a remote planet.
• Research project - in relation to a Mars mission, students research the various branches of science and engineering that combine to make interplanetary human space flights feasible.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
