Governments Get Hot about Global Warming
Produced by Nelson Thornes, this resource helps students look at aspects of how science works. The aim of the activity is for students to critically assess some of the evidence that might connect our increased burning of fossil fuels to rising global temperatures.
Students should realise that, although we are experiencing rising global temperatures and increasing levels of carbon dioxide, there may be other factors contributing to global warming. These factors may well include the presence of other gases in our atmosphere, such as methane and, indeed, water vapour.
Also, could governments be seen to be using global warming as a threat to make us reduce our consumption of fossil fuels before they inevitably run out?
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
