General Number
This selection of spreadsheets, designed by the Primary National Strategies to aid teaching and learning, tackles number in a variety of ways.
Number grid generator has three spreadsheets and a guidance file. They allow numbers to be generated, by choosing a start number and a step, that can be used in a variety of ways to spot patterns and reason about numbers, the numbers can then be hidden or revealed. These include whole numbers, decimals and negatives.
Counting over boundaries is a timed activity to add or subtract units, tens, hundreds, thousands, tenths and hundredths. A starting number is input and then an amount to be added or subtracted is selected. The students must predict the total before it is revealed. The timer can be adjusted. Teacher guidance is included.
Make numbers allows the selection of two numbers and an operation, the answer can then be hidden or revealed. The numbers that can be chosen include up to three digit numbers and two decimal places. Teacher guidance is included.
Number boards creates a completed five by five number board, including a choice of whole numbers, multiples, decimals, percentages, fractions, money and time. Teacher guidance and suggested use is included.
Four operations with small numbers and Decimal target board creates a three by three target board. Numbers are then selected and a running total can be hidden or revealed.
Decimal addition and subtraction facts has a four by four blank addition table that generates random decimal numbers and adds them to fill the table. The random numbers or answers can be hidden or revealed to practise addition and subtraction.
Timed number bonds is a timed activity where the complement of a number has to be found. The level of difficulty of the number, including numbers up to 100 and two decimal places, and the time allowed can be varied.
Which number where? has a selection of puzzles where answers to addition or multiplication sums are given and students have to work out what numbers could have been used. These puzzles range from a straightforward two number sum to a three by three grid.
