Formulae of Shapes
This activity from Virtual Maths reinforces knowledge of the formulae used for finding perimeter, area and volume of shapes.
There are several tools which can be used to calculate the area of a triangle, rectangle or elipse. They show a diagram with the relevant formula and as the values for two dimensions are altered, the diagram illustrates the adjustments, substitutes the values into the formula, processes the calculation and shows the area. A similar resource for the volume of a cylinder is also available.
A kinaesthetic activity is provided, where students are given cards, on which are diagrams that have been labelled with pertinent information and a formula, they then have to decide what the formula represents and place each card around the appropriate hexagon.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
