Volume of Cylinder 1
This Virtual Maths resource demonstrates a practical application of the formula for finding the volume of a cylinder. A cabinet has to be built to hold drums of oil and the presentation shows how to convert units, before using them to find the radius of a cylinder and thus the diameter. Students then calculate the necessary dimensions of the cupboard.
An interactive tool shows a diagram of a cylinder and the formula used to calculate its volume. As the values for the radius and height are altered, the diagram illustrates the adjustments, substitutes the values into the formula, processes the calculation and shows the volume.
An information sheet showing the formulae for finding the surface area and volume of 3-D shapes is provided.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
