Extinction
The Ginn Science topic book Extinction was written for students in Year Two (Primary Three) aged six to seven years and published in 1992. It relates to the content strand ‘Other animals and plants’, has 24 pages and requires a considerably higher reading level than other Ginn Science Year Two students’ books. It illustrates the meaning of extinction through information about dinosaurs and other extinct animals. The book makes a distinction between extinction caused by some natural forces and that caused by man’s activities. It draws attention to some currently endangered species and the role of zoos in preserving them. The final sections deal with extinction in plants and lists things that children can do to prevent further losses of plants and animals.
