Triple Science Case Study: Inspiring Through Enhancement and Enrichment
From the Triple Science Support Programme, this case study illustrates the steps taken by a school in moving away from a stereotypical view of triple science as being academic and theoretical towards more exciting and engaging provision, and so attract more students to take up these GCSEs. It looks at the impact of developing a substantial and effective enrichment and enhancement programme that complements an established GCSE triple science course.
The case study includes some background information about Horsforth School (Leeds) and its use of student voice to identify opinions alongside the introduction of more external speakers, clubs, university links and so on. The impact has been seen in terms of numbers of students choosing post-16 sciences.
Key learning points for others are identified and include: taking advantage of outreach teams at local universities; maintaining an enrichment and enhancement folder; and not being afraid to try new approaches that schools feel would suit their students.
