From the Triple Science Support Programme, this case study illustrates a three school partnership with higher education, involving a wide variety of activities including CPD, lesson-planning, enrichment activities and mutual observations.

The case study includes some background information about the involvement of three Leicester schools with DeMontfort University and how they organised mutual observations of classroom practice, CPD sessions, and a ‘challenge day’ and ‘awe-inspiring’ lectures for Year Nine students.

Tips for successful partnerships are identified and include:
• making sure partners share the common vision and purpose for the partnership,
• ensuring that the senior management teams are involved at an early stage,
• avoiding delivering activities during key pressure times for Key Stage Four exam groups, and
• increasing capacity by including partners from other sectors.
