Aluminium: Cradle to Grave
The resource pack is produced by CIEC Promoting Science. It looks at the life-cycle and environmental impact of aluminium products.
Student activities and investigations help to illustrate curriculum science in real-life contexts. This includes:
• Constructing a cradle to grave analysis of aluminium
• Studying the use of energy and raw materials, and the impact of emissions at different stages in the manufacture and use of aluminium products
• Evaluating data and production of an ecoprofile for aluminium
• Identifying ways of reducing the environmental impact of aluminium
These activities allow students to consider topics such as sustainable development, environmental impact, energy use and climate change.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
