Image Scale Math
This series of activities from NASA take a mathematical approach to looking at image scaling, which is an important first step that all astronomers perform when looking at image data. They are intended as supplementary problems for students looking for additional challenges in mathematics and physical science from age 11 to 14 years. The problems were created to be authentic glimpses of modern science and engineering issues, often involving actual research data. Problems consist of a student page and an answer sheet. Students need to be familiar with using scale drawings and geometry.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
