Real Data Statistics Projects for Key Stage 3
Statistics Projects for Key Stage 3 from SMILE consists of six themed handling data projects. Within each project, there are six levelled hypotheses enabling teachers to develop a differentiated approach.
The Hypotheses are set at different levels:
• Hypothesis A is targeted at Level 3/4;
• Hypothesis B is targeted at Level 4;
• Hypothesis C is targeted at Level 5;
• Hypothesis D is targeted at Level 5;
• Hypothesis E is targeted at Level 6;
• Hypothesis F is targeted at Level 6/7.
For each project a Teachers' Planning Grid gives guidance on how to organise the projects.
The grid also identifies how the Learning Objectives from the Framework for Teaching Mathematics are addressed.
For each hypothesis there is:
• a photocopiable Students' Support Sheet;
• a file containing relevant support data.
The Fast Hands Project requires students to collect their own data.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
