Outdoor Gig
This resource from the Nuffield Foundation provides weather data that students use to consider which month would be the best to hold an outdoor gig. The activity gives students practice in using either a calculator or a spreadsheet to calculate mean and range values.
Outdoor Gig A for use with calculators - the student information sheet gives total monthly sunshine data in England and Wales for 2001–2010 and shows how to calculate the mean for July. Version A of the slideshow includes the same data and calculation.
Outdoor Gig B for use with a spreadsheet - the spreadsheet includes temperature, sunshine and rainfall data for each month in the period 1960–2010. The slideshow includes the same information and can be used to introduce the activity.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
