In this Future Morph video, glass artist Nina Gronw-Lewis talks about how she uses science and mathematics to make glass jewellery and run her small business. She recalls memories of her school science before describing the process of making and firing glass jewellery. This requires an understanding of how to calculate and control the kiln's heating and cooling cycle.

The related practical task looks at making borax glass beads and carrying out flame tests on metal compounds.

An associated resources booklet, which can be found in the Introduction to Future Morph Resources, organises the resources into themes, provides an overview of the teachers’ notes, describes practical activities and suggests cross-curricular links.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
