The Sanger Institute played a major role in the Human genome Project. It continues to perform ground-breaking research in the field of genetics.

The Human Genome Project was a massive, international effort to decode the human genome. That sequence is now joined by hundreds, soon to be thousands, of genomes in freely-available databases, so that researchers can mine the information within.

The resources in this collection contain a range of resources from Flash animations to paper and web based activities. They will support the teaching of topics such as DNA, genes and proteins, cancer and the Human Genome Project. The activities and animations are designed to complement the national curriculum and GCSE, AS and A-level Science specifications for 14-19 year olds. Resources may be used during lessons and science clubs or used for setting homework tasks.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
