Science Across the World
This collection includes the topics that were developed by international teams of teachers participating in Science Across the World between 1991 and 2010. The project was run by the Association for Science Education (ASE). A special feature of the topics is that they are available in several languages. Every topic leads towards an exchange of findings and ideas between groups of students.
International exchanges
Working as a class, students aim to reach consensus about the information they have found and the ideas that they have come up with. They tackle a series of tasks to gather the information needed to complete an Exchange Form.
After exchanging their findings and views with students in other countries, students compare and discuss the responses received from classes in other parts of the world.
Exchange partners
ASE ran the project in partnership with BP at first and then later with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In the years that it was fully funded, the central team maintained a database of participating teachers and helped to organise the exchanges. There are still active schools making use of the topics and exchanging ideas and information. For details visit the Science Across the World pages of the ASE web site.
Age range
Most of the Science Across the World topics were intended for use in secondary schools. However there were some topics for younger students which were either adapted from secondary topics or specially written for students in primary schools.

Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.

I'd like to be the first to congratulate STEM (and the people behind the scenes who did the graft) for hosting these wonderful resources from Science Across the World. At last count I think there were 8,000 schools registered in the database and I've been exchanging emails with a number of worried colleagues wondering what they are going to do, now the SAW site is closed. Well, now they have a new home to go to. Thank you.
