Science Assessment Tasks for More Able Students
Between 2002-2005 the Centre for Science Education developed a series of activities for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the National Assessment Agency (NAA). These student assessment materials were developed to enable students to demonstrate their depth of knowledge and breadth of scientific understanding. The teacher could then use the student work as evidence of student performance beyond and including level six of the then National Curriculum, up to and including Exceptional Performance (EP).
The materials have strong contemporary contexts with pertinent input from named scientists in their relevant fields used where possible. The activities also aimed to encourage students to demonstrate their communication skills through discussion in the development of their ideas.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
