SATIS 8-14 was a project of the Association for Science Education which followed from the SATIS and SATIS 16-19 projects

SATIS 8-14 materials were photocopiable and flexible. They were intended to enrich work in both the National Curriculum for Science and for Technology. SATIS units were intended to stimulate group work and co-operation.

The resources
SATIS materials were intended to put school science and technology into context. Many of these contexts were social, industrial, agricultural, or to do with health and safety. SATIS 8-14 published its units in booklets grouped into three box files:
• Box 1, the green box, was for years 3 and 4 of Key Stage Two,
• Box 2, the yellow box, was for years 5 and 6 of Key Stage Two but could also be used in Key Stage Three
• Box 3, the blue box, was for Key Stage Three.

Structure of SATIS 8-14 units
The opening pages of each unit was standard. The first paragraph introduced the unit with a little background information. This was followed by sections giving:
• an at-a-glance outline of the parts of the unit.
• a list of expected learning outcomes
• links to the National Curriculum at the time
• guidance on how to use the unit based on the practical experiences of schools that trialled the SATIS 8-14 materials.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
