A Catalyst article about the CLEVER car, which has been designed to be a compact, energy-efficient car. As more and more people want to get about within cities and towns, the problems of congestion and pollution are increasing. Motorcycles and bicycles take up less space and produce fewer emissions than conventional cars, but they are unsafe in an accident and do not offer much in the way of comfort or protection from bad weather. This article describes an alternative solution – the CLEVER vehicle, a micro car. Many of its design features described in the article are likely to appear in more conventional cars in the near future.

This article is from Catalyst: Secondary Science Review 2007, Volume 18, Issue 2.

Catalyst is a science magazine for students aged 14-19 years. Annual subscriptions to print copies of the magazine can be purchased from Mindsets.
