The Science 5/13 Unit for teachers entitled Early experiences focuses on science for the youngest children (infants) in the primary school. Unlike other Units of the project, the activities proposed in Early experiences cover a range of activity-based topics and relate only to the objectives stated for the first part of stage one, defined in the statement of objectives as the transition from intuition to concrete operations. Each section has a series of activities under sub-headings generally presented through illustrations and examples of children’s drawings or writing. They provide a wide range of activities from which teachers are intended to construct their own programmes.

HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment. Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date. Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work. Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
