Metals and Plastics
The Ginn Science topic book Metals and Plastics for students aged 10 and 11 was published in 1991. It provides a wealth on information relating to the origin, properties and uses of these materials. Beginning with metals, it uses full colour illustrations in providing information about the history of metals, how they were used in the past, as well as the uses they have now and how they are recycled. It then explores the ways in which plastics have replaced metals in the modern age. It explains what plastics are, how they were discovered, the various forms in which they are found and the difficulty of disposing of some of them. It uses cartoon format to tell the story of the discovery of nylon and the impact that it had on the Second World War and it subsequent use in all aspects of daily life.
