Medicines for Pets
Produced by CIEC Promoting Science, these resources help to put curriculum science in a real life context. The activities use the pharmaceutical industry as a real life context to encourage children to look at the properties of materials, changing state and separation techniques.
Children investigate the challenges faced by research scientists that include:
• extraction and purification of the medicine's active ingredient
• formulation of a tablet
• testing the best shape for a tablet
• development of a suitable coating for a tablet.
The activities are supported by extensive teacher guidance and children's activity sheets.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
