Polymers: Information and Activity Book
From CIEC Promoting Science, this book is aimed at post-16 chemistry students but will also be useful for students following technology or vocational courses. The book helps students to first understand the basis of polymer chemistry and the plastics industry. It moves on to consider detailed information on individual polymers, including the reaction conditions for the large scale manufacture of the monomers and polymers, together with some of the processes used to convert the polymer to a useful plastic or fibre.
Consideration is given to aspects such as raw materials, energy costs, economics, environmental impacts and recycling.
Students activities are included and practical work is set out in detail.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
