Control Systems Engineer: Vicki Hodges
This STEMNET resource describes the background and career of STEM Ambassador Vicki Hodges, an Attitude and Orbit Control Systems engineer working on a project to develop an unmanned spacecraft.
Having joined the Astrium graduate scheme, Vicki has moved around the company and gained experience in a variety of different roles. She is now part of a team which is developing an unmanned spacecraft that will carry out a 'galactic census', calculating the magnitude and velocity of stars. Her task is to help design the system which controls the position and orientation of the spacecraft.
Vicki says, "It’s really exciting to think that something I’ve worked on will be blasted into space. How many people can say that?”
