Bronze Award: Triathlon
The British Science Association CREST Awards encourage students to take an investigative approach to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related projects. These resources are just a few ideas that could be used to help students gain an award.
These materials look at three possible projects that relate to a wet suit used in open water swimming during a triathlon:
• Communications project - students gather information about the materials wetsuits are made from and explain what features make them suitable for athletes.
• Practical project - students investigate how well different materials insulate an athlete and how the materials chosen are suitable for a wet suit.
• Research project - research and advise about the use of a park lake by a swimming club.
HEALTH and SAFETY
Any use of a resource that includes a practical activity must include a risk assessment.
Please note that collections may contain ARCHIVE resources, which were developed at a much earlier date.
Since that time there have been significant changes in the rules and guidance affecting laboratory practical work.
Further information is provided in our Health and Safety guidance.
