Science in the National Curriculum

The Department for Education has recently launched a complete review of the National Curriculum in England. A call for evidence was launched on 20th January and closes on 14 April 2011. This SCORE event provides a timely opportunity for participants to discuss evidence relating to science in the National Curriculum. The event will not seek to reach a consensus, but will enable participants to share key issues from their own organisation’s response and/or to contribute their views to others submitting responses. If you are not able to attend this event, please forward this invitation to other interested people within your organisation.

The format will be a series of discussion sessions, informed both by pre-reading and talks. Conversations at each table will be captured and shared with all delegates shortly after the meeting. The event will not address specific content issues but instead consider the totality of the National Curriculum. Areas for discussion include:

1. The structure of science in the National Curriculum
2. How Children Learn
3. Key Stage 4 Science

This free event, being held at the Institute of Physics, is open to all organisations and individuals with an interest in science education. There is a restriction of 120 guests and places will be allocated to ensure there is a wide representation of teachers and organisations. SCORE anticipates that the event will be oversubscribed, so please register as quickly as possible. Confirmation of your place will be sent within 10 days of your registration.
