Spring Physics Update

The programme for this three-day CPD course organised by the Institute of Physics will include:
- Lectures from distinguished speakers
- Workshops where delegates will have the opportunity to explore new practical activities and resources
- Meals (a mixture of buffet lunches and formal dining)
- Accommodation near the university (if required)
Some of the planned lectures will include:
- The Physics of Computer Games (Dr Jon Purdy, University of Hull)
- Weaving the Cosmic Web (Dr Pete Edwards, Durham University)
Workshops will be "hands-on" sessions offering teachers opportunities to try new equipment, develop new IT skills, learn new experimental techniques, try out novel investigations and engage with alternative teaching and learning strategies. Some of the topics to be covered include:
- Best of Salters Horners Advanced Physics: context-led teaching (Dr Elizabeth Swinbank, University of York)
- Seeing inside the body: practical medical physics activities (Dr Michael Drinnan, Newcastle University & Dr Taj Bhutta, Institute of Physics)
- Science Enhancement Programme KS3/4 Physics Practicals: wind power; hot and cold - using thermocolour film; and supermagnets (Richard Ager, Science Enhancement Programme)
And much more besides!
