The MEI Conference
England (North West)
30.06.2011 - 02.07.2011
The MEI Conference is an annual three-day event about 14 -19 mathematics run by Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) for teachers of all specifications.
The conference offers the opportunity for mathematics teachers and enthusiasts at all stages of their careers to share, explore, discuss and evaluate ideas for the classroom. This year's conference is being held at Keele University from 30 June - 2 July.
Much of the conference will be devoted to workshops, twelve in all, with up to eight options in each. These cover a wide variety of topics, ensuring that there is always something for everyone. Sessions will be led by experienced teachers, examiners, and subject experts from many areas of the mathematical world, including MEI, The Further Mathematics Support Programme, Keele University, and The Royal Statistical Society (RSS).
Teachers and lecturers involved in the FMSP and the Teaching Further Mathematics (TFM) course will be joining the conference for separate programmes of sessions. This year for the first time the National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges (NANAMIC), are joining the conference, and will also be holding their own sessions. For those who would like to know more about these initiatives, the conference provides a good opportunity to talk to those involved. In addition, on the Thursday, the RSS will be holding their half-day conference, integrated with the MEI programme and you will be welcome to go to their sessions which will look at using real data in the classroom.
In addition to the workshop sessions, on each day there will be a different plenary from a guest lecturer: Prof David Spiegelhalter, Sir John Holman and Dr Matt Parker. More information about presenters can be found on the conference website.
Delegates can register for 1, 2 or 3 full days at the conference, with or without accommodation.
The MEI Publishers’ Exhibition, open during refreshment and meal breaks, is a useful way for delegates to review products that are available to them to support their teaching of mathematics.
