ACME offers opportunity to feed back on early drafts of the new Programmes of Study for mathematics

As part of the Government's ongoing National Curriculum review, the Department for Education is due to issue new Programmes of Study for mathematics for formal consultation in early 2012, ahead of final approval in September 2012, to be formally issued for teaching in September 2013. As part of this process, the Secretary of State for Education has asked for the development process to be opened up by sharing work in progress on the new Programmes of Study with subject communities for discussion and collaboration early this Autumn term.

ACME will be facilitating this extra level of discussion with the community, offering teachers an important opportunity to comment on the early drafts. The purpose of this additional level of discussion is to bring in subject expertise in an open and transparent way to support the development of the National Curriculum, making the proposed Programmes of Study as good as they can be, through input from the best in their field. This input will be used, alongside other evidence collated by the Department for Education including responses to the Call for Evidence earlier in the year, to inform final drafts of the new Programmes of Study which will go to Ministers for approval in the Autumn.

Between 5 - 21 September, ACME will be making use of the NCETM portal to facilitate discussion, according to the following schedule:

  • A reminder of these details and instructions for how to register on the NCETM website will be issued at the end of August (along with any changes to the schedule below)
  • The draft Programmes of Study will go live on the ACME website and on a dedicated NCETM discussion forum on 5 September
  • The discussion forum will be open during 5-21 September for members of the community to debate relevant issues
  • There will also be a simple website feedback form available for those who wish to submit their comments directly to ACME privately
  • An eSeminar will be held during w/c 12 September, and ACME will ask people to express an interest in participating in this when the reminders are issued in August
  • Between 21 September and the end of the month ACME will work on providing consolidated feedback to the Department for Education based on thoughts gathered through this process
