Report from Talking Science Education debate at ASE 2012

This report summarises the Talking Science Education debate held at the Association for Science Education (ASE) Annual Conference, hosted by the University of Liverpool on Thursday 5 January 2012. Organised by the Nuffield Foundation, the Royal Society, the national network of Science Learning Centres and the Wellcome Trust, the event was developed following a series of mini Talking Science debate sessions hosted at ASE 2009 and 2010.

An open session on the ASE 2012 programme, the informal two-hour debate aimed to give teachers from the primary and secondary sectors and representatives from the science education community the opportunity to discuss issues on the theme Is it possible to design assessment for the science curriculum that is fit for purpose?
