Bafta launches second Young Game Designers competition

Bafta has launched its second Young Game Designers competition, which is designed to encourage school children to consider a career in the games industry. Those wishing to enter will need to get into teams of three and submit their ideas in writing to Bafta. The competition is open to all students aged between 11-16 and the winning entry will then be announced at the British Academy Children's awards in November 2011.

The competition, supported by the University of Abertay and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts and also by major games publisher Electronic Arts (EA), first launched in 2010. The winning entry last year was developed into a prototype and the winning team got to experience a week's work experience at EA's Bright Light studio in Guildford, where the Harry Potter computer games are made.

As well as combating the prejudices of parents, the competition is also a chance to remind school children that the games industry is a viable career option. Bafta will also accompany the competition with country-wide workshops and events, as well as a range of classroom materials.

Deadline for entry: Monday 24 October, 2011.

Visit the competition website for more information and to play last year's winning entry.
