Digital technologies and mathematics education

The Joint Mathematical Council of the United Kingdom (JMC) has today launched a report, Digital technologies and mathematics education, that considers the role of digital technologies in mathematics education. Amongst the recommendations is a call to change 'high-stakes assessment' in order to encourage the creative use of digital technologies in the mathematics classroom. It also calls for the curriculum to explicitly require that all young people become proficient in using digital technologies for mathematical purposes, and the introduction of a computer programming element into the curriculum.
