Free ‘More Maths Grads’ regional workshops

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the National HE STEM Programme are offering free one day workshops across the UK, to share good practice, resources and activities developed by the HEFCE-funded pilot project ‘More Maths Grads’. The workshops will cover topics including effective outreach to schools and colleges, HE mathematics curriculum design and the opportunity to share with others on regional activity.

Workshops are being offered in Plymouth, Bath, York, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and Portsmouth.

The ‘More Maths Grads’ project was a HEFCE-funded pilot project which trialled and evaluated different ways to increase and widen participation in the mathematical sciences. Over three years project staff worked with several thousand students on a huge variety of different activities at the three pilot universities: Leeds, Coventry and Queen Mary, University of London.

At the end of the project in January 2010, many of the resources and activities from ‘More Maths Grads’ were incorporated into ‘Maths in a Box’, a resource which has been sent to every state secondary school and college in England and Wales. Each workshop attendee will also receive a complete box set to take away. Further ones are available to download for free from www.mathscareers.org.uk.

The Flyer, including booking details, and the Workshop Programme are available to download from the links to the left. Travel details and further information will be sent out with a registration pack.
